Hi,
you may also wish to consider the heirarchical data format, HDF5
developed at NCSA, http://hdf5.ncsa.uiuc.edu. This is designed for
storing multidimensional scientific data. It has no special support for
querying as in a relation db but it does support slicing and dicing and
other techniques for accessing a part of your dataset.
We are trying using to use hdf5 to store the numeric data with a data model developed in a subset of the EXPRESS (iso 10303:11) language. The data model identifies what the data is and the relationship between the various numeric datasets.
