ACM CIKM 2002 CALL FOR PAPERS
Eleventh International Conference on Information and Knowledge Management
There are only few days left before the paper submission deadline. The web site for paper submissions is http://www.cikm.org/2002.
May 20, 2002 Electronic abstract due May 27, 2002 Full paper submission due Aug. 5, 2002 Notification of acceptance
November 4 -9, 2002
SAIC Headquarters, McLean, Virginia, USA

Sponsored by ACM SIGIR and ACM SIGMIS
For the last ten years, CIKM has successfully brought together leading researchers and developers from several areas of information and knowledge management (KM), database management systems (DBMS) and information retrieval (IR). We continue this tradition of collaboration between information and knowledge management. Over 300 papers were submitted to CIKM in 2001 of which only 25 percent were accepted. We anticipate similar participation in 2002. We have a special interest in papers that bridge the areas of databases and information retrieval. Areas of interest include but are not limited to:
Data and Knowledge Sharing
Data Mining, Knowledge Discovery
IR Effectiveness and Efficiency
Integrating Structured and Unstructured Data
Data Warehouses, OLAP
Distributed Object Management
Digital Libraries
Federated Information Systems
Heterogeneous and Distributed Systems
Hypertext and Hypermedia
Semi-Structured Data Management
Query Processing
Interactive Data Exploration
Intelligent Information Systems
Information Filtering and Summarization
Information Visualization
Information Classification
Intelligent Mediators
Knowledge Management
Data Management in Mobile Environments
Multimedia and Spatial Databases
Authors are invited to submit original, unpublished research papers that are not being considered in another forum. At least one author will be required to attend the conference to present the paper. Electronic submission of manuscripts is required, preferably in PDF. Detailed instructions for electronic submission will be available at http://www.cikm.org/2002.

TUTORIAL SUBMISSION: The Program Committee of CIKM 2002 solicits tutorial proposals. Each tutorial will be presented in a 3 hours session, for half-day sessions, on topics of current relevance to information and knowledge management. Tutorial proposals must include title, objective, intended audience, prerequisite, contents to be covered, instructors and their biography. If you are interested in proposing a tutorial, please send a proposal to the tutorial chair, Dr. Il-Yeol Song at song_at_drexel.edu.
WORKSHOP SUBMISSION: CIKM has been held with several workshops such as GIS, WIDM, DOLAP, and DocEng. If you are interested in organizing a new workshop to be held with CIKM, send your proposal to the workshop chair, Dr. R. Scott Cost at cost_at_acm.org.
PANEL SUBMISSION: We also encourage proposals for panels on new and controversial issues related to the conference topics. Proposals on topics that emphasize the interaction between research areas are particularly welcome. Panel proposals must be debate-oriented and must pose specific questions that panelists can be called upon to answer. A list of probable participants with their affiliations should be included in the proposal. Panel proposals should be submitted by May 27, 2002.
INDUSTRY TRACK SUBMISSION: We solicit high-quality presentations which provide in-depth technical discussion of:
information and knowledge management products and marketplace trends requirements of novel applications important research problems from an industrial perspective lessons learned applying research results to real problems
By July 15, 2001 (firm), please submit one of the following to the industry track chair, Len Seligman (seligman_at_mitre.org):
1-3 page abstract (in PDF, postscript, or Word) describing your proposed presentation, or 1-2 paragraph abstract plus draft presentation slides (in Powerpoint, PDF, postscript, or html). Accepted abstracts will be published in the conference proceedings. In addition, selected abstracts will be considered for publication (as full papers) in the Industry Perspectives section of SIGMOD Record.
SPONSORSHIP OF CIKM: Previously, a variety of industry, academic, and government sponsors have sponsored CIKM. Organizations who may be interested in sponsorship are invited to contact the general chair at nicholas_at_umbc.edu.
