Hi Bob, Jim et al

Forgive me for coming in late. I've only just (re-)subscrived to this group. I wish I had witnessed the beginnings of this thread - what I have read thus far has been very interesting.

More correctly, each tuple in a relation establishes relationships between attribute values and candidate key values. Attribute values _should_ be independant from each other - yes?
</pedantry>

The matters under discussion are very close to my heart, and it is wonderful to see them getting such a thorough public exploration. Hopefully I will be able to make a more positive contribution once I'm more up to speed with the converstion thus far.

I notice various references ( <g> ) to an original post regarding object persistance from "Adrian". Would it be possible for someone to re-post or e-mail the original post. I am assuming that, although the discussion seems largely to have degenerated into quibbling about the semantic differences between the word "reference" and "pointer", originally it was more about "Third Manifesto" type criticisms of OO-DBMS systems that implement Object-IDs and suchlike - yes?

cheers,
