transaction based application design

I want design a system which has high level of concurrency and large database, large number of DB(transaction) accessing applications.

And i'm finding documents about transaction based application design.
(modeing / implimentation / performance(tuning) issues..)
But it was not easy...

If you have any information about this, comment please.
