I'm also confused by Mikito's writing.

As far as materialized views go, you can use that term to describe a product specific feature, or you can use the same term to refer to a concept that is available in all relational DBMSes I'm aware of.

Oracle's snapshots play the role, conceptually, of a materialized view.
