You might be interested in the OOPSLA '01 Workshop on "Objects, XML and Databases" planned for later this year, where we hope to cover some of the above topics. Consider writing a position paper if you are interested. More details here:

We have some of the leading experts on Objects, XML and Databases on the Program Committee. The Call for Papers (CFP) page is active and stable.

I've helped run three previous workshops at OOPSLA on Data Management topics and they have always been great fun to do and I've learned a lot.
