Lee, pull the Oracle 9.2 Reference manaul and look up processes.

If you are running on UNIX you might also want to check on the ulimit command which limits at the OS level how many processes, files, etc... a user account may have.

By the way when a newsgroup has subgroups you should generally post to the subgroups and not the newsgroup. Comp.database.oracle was split several years ago into .server, .misc, .tools, and .marketplace.
