Oracle has changed the name of its communication software numerous times. When I started administering Oracle (about 15 years ago), it was called SQL*NET, it then went to NET8 and then Oracle Net. I think I missed a name or two in there too, I still have a bad habit of calling it SQL*NET myself. Just diff't names for Oracle's communication software over the years.
