Hello Ryan,

I want you to understand that both Oracle 8i and 9i has equal application in the industry. it is just that 9i is a more current version of Oracle. If you have your certification in 8i it is more or less the same as having it in 9i. However you will need an upgrade exams.

For Now, I will advise you to go for 9i certification path.

As for books, There aare so many of them in the market, if you go to Amazon.com you'll get a good number of them. being a beginer I will advise you try hands on some Oracle publications from Osbourne Mc Graw Hill. Try their web sites . I enjouy their books a great deal.

try as much as you can to get a hands on experience as it helps a lot in securing a job.
