I've been PL/SQLing for over 10 years. The books published by O'Rielly are good. You'll recognize them by the bugs on the cover. May I suggest any book written by Steven Feuerstein on the subject, or ANY Oracle topic for that matter. Steve is a god. He's easy to understand, tosses in humor so it's never dull, and you will most certainly learn from him because he doesn't just give the 1, 2, 3s, he gives the reasons WHY it works with plenty of real world examples. Knowing why and how it works will make you a better programmer.

Also, just about any Oracle Press book is good. Author Scott Urman is very good. I still refer to my Oracle PL/SQL Programming book by Scott from time to time.

Sad to say, I don't trust any book written by Oracle, that is, the OEM documentation. The quality of the editing has gone down the toilet. A couple of years ago I struggled with Advanced Queuing using books I bought directly from Oracle. Talk about FULL of errors!!!! As a matter of fact, Oracle has NEVER written good documentation. You almost have to be familiar with a programming language in order to use the book or you'll never be able to even look anything up in the index.

Good luck! Received on Sun Jun 08 2003 - 04:21:42 CEST
