There are 'wire protocol' ODBC drivers available that do not need Oracle Client Software installed and can be even faster than 'native' connections..

( They were at one time known as the Merant drivers)

( Note: I am not now, nor have I ever been, an employee of this company..just a satisfied user ( on a Solaris client)
