OWB Time Dimension Wizard

In OWB 9i Time Dimension Wizard, by default the wizard will generate an ID attribute for each level. So if I have a day-month-year heirarchy, I will get an ID attribute for each level like day_ID, month_ID and year_ID.

What is the purpose of these ID attribute? Can I "disable" its creation in the wizard? Can I use just the day or month or year and remove the IDs without affecting the heirarchy ?
