Oracle performance under Windows 2000 vs. UNIX

I've got a simple question here that requires a more complex answer: On which type of platform will Oracle run faster given the same hardware: UNIX or Windows 2000? (I'm particularly interested in understanding what in the architecture of Oracle and the two products results in this difference). Also, just how customized is Oracle for the specific O/S (i.e. how much of the code base is shared)?
