Insert new record on update problem

Hi,
I'm new to forms and I have come upon a problem...
I want to use the existing values I got from the query and the changed values to create a new record instead of updating the existing one. I guess the right place is to do something in the ON-UPDATE trigger to make it insert a new record instead of updating the existing one. But I just can't make it work! Any help is appriciated...
