I got this working on RH7.3 by following guidelines very similar to Jeff's. The only thing I did different from you is that I changed LD_SELF_CONTAINED="" (not LD_SELF_CONTAINED=" "). I don't know for sure if this makes a difference, but if all else fails, it's maybe worth a shot.
