problem w/ sql loader

When using sql loader, I get an error message "Record 2: Rejected - Error on table TEMP_TABLE, column DESCRIPTION. Field in data file exceeded maximum specified length." The datatype of column DESCRIPTION is VARCHAR2(2000). The length of the data passing into that column is no larger than 1500. When I chop the data to about 500, it loads fine. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
