i think this is not the problem. there is no command accepted at all. no CTRL-C, no ENTER. I also checked setting a user variable by &name_variable, the program waits for the user typing the value for the variable, but it's not possible to enter anything. the problem not only occurs in my sql*plus shell, it also occurs in other shells running this version (8.1.7)

any other hints?
