Yes, many folks are still on Oracle 8i (mostly 8.1.7). But for new installations, take 9i, as Oracle will not discount you for 8i. Oracle 8i - 8.1.7 is still supported and will continue to be supported with new patches and support personnel from Oracle Corporation. If this would not be so, I wouldn't choose Oracle.
