2 ways to find out the name of your database:

  1. Look for tnsnames.ora in the network\admin subdirectory of you Oracle installation. The database name is the top-left word of each section in the file.
  2. Type "lsnrctl services" at a dos prompt. If the Oracle listener is working, the name of the database will appear in the output. If the listener is not running, start it first with "lsnrctl start".
