Best way to gain experience?

Hello all...I just completed my Oracle8i DBA some weeks ago, and have since began looking for an Oracle job. Obviously experience is better than paper, but it seemed like a good place to start. I didn't just memorize the stuff, I actually learned it so I've got a good foundation to work from.

I have zero experience with Oracle in a company environment, and I'm wondering what the best way is that I can gain experience that would be valuable to a company and increase my chances of success while looking for a job. I've written a simple Visual Basic program that generates a lot of activity on a database in the hopes that I can simulate a working environment, but in the end it's just that: a simulation. It performs updates, inserts, selects, and deletes so I can practice recovery operations, performance monitoring, and tuning, and I was even considering making it into a more impressive project by having the program try to sabotage the database...but I'm looking for something more.

Any suggestions? Thanks a bunch in advance! Received on Fri Mar 29 2002 - 19:52:50 CET
