correct me if i am wrong but I think you are making an online backup with arcserv. This means you do need the archive logs for a restore of the database to a point in time of media failure. Deleting the archive logs necessary will cause the restore to fail. Explaination: during online backup the datafile header will be frozen meaning all transactions will not be applied to the datafile but only to logfiles which will be archive as archivelogs. A complete backup is thus: the backup files + the archived log files.
