Sybrand, I have to agree with you. This workaround has been covered to death across the various newgroups etc. A bit of searching and the answer is there for the taking.
Might I also suggest an easy way of getting around this P4 problem: extract the Oracle files to your hd, download and install the JRE 1.1.8+, copy the symcjit.dll from there, and replace the two files in the Oracle installation directory before the installation is attempted. This doesn't always work, but generally does.

That brings me to a point that I am wondering about. I got around the same problem with the P4, but for some reason OMS will not install (but the rest of OEM does). Would that be a product of the same problem do you think?
