I'd really appreciate a little help.
Oracle is new to me so your pardon if I am asking a really dumb
question.
For reasons out of my control I am trying, (for the first time ever),
to use SQL Plus 3.3 over a version 5 Oracle engine, (I think), both
running on NT but different boxes. I'm not finding the SQL Plus
interface too friendly but having discovered EDIT, START and SPOOL
life is becoming easier.
However I find that all the files seem to end up in the 'BIN' folder.
I am able to redirect them by specifying full path names but was
wondering if there was any kind of 'environment variable' I could set
to alter the default on NT or Unix?
On an associated matter I'm told that "all real Oracle professionals
never use SQL Plus but third party tools". Is this true? if so which
ones are recommended?
Which ones are thought to be the best ?
