I used the DB2 gateway product in 1989, and it worked flawlessly. I would assume it still works pretty much the same way.

I also used the connect to IMS, Rdb (DEC) and RMS (DEC) files. The connections to Rdb and IMS worked very well, but the connection to IMS was unpredictable. I think that was because of the relational - hierarchical mapping. We ultimately canned the IMS connect because there was a cheaper and faster way to solve our problems.

I would suspect that the biggest roadblock would be the price. I don't know what you're looking at for the license, but Oracle isn't known for being cheap.
