SQL*XL may be the tool you may be looking for here. SQL*XL can batch upload a whole spreadsheet full of data into an Oracle database. So that takes care of getting the data into a real database. Furthermore, SQL*XL is great for ad-hoc queries. It pulls the data you want out of Oracle and puts it into your current spreadsheet. Quite nice because in Excel you can then use the data for printing, calculations, etc.
