Hi David,

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately, JRE is in the path, typing jre from the command line ( WIN2K Advanced Server ) does call the correct version of the file. I have also typed "set java_home= d:\oracle9ilite\bin" as well  having copied the files to this location) and still no luck.

Because this is so clearly an environment/path problem, I went back and had another look at ORAPARAM.INI and noticed that there are 3 paths that are incorrect in this file, not the 2 that I corrected earlier. I hadn't noticed the line below:

SOURCE=../products.jar

So for everyone else's sake change the following 3 lines:

SOURCE=../../stage/products.jar
LICENSE_LOCATION=
JRE_LOCATION=../../stage/Components/oracle.swd.jre/1.1.7.30/1/DataFiles/Expa nded/jre
OUI_LOCATION=../../stage/Components/oracle.swd.oui/1.7.1.9.0/1/DataFiles/Exp anded

to:

SOURCE=../products.jar
LICENSE_LOCATION=
JRE_LOCATION=../Components/oracle.swd.jre/1.1.7.30/1/DataFiles/Expanded/jre OUI_LOCATION=../Components/oracle.swd.oui/1.7.1.9.0/1/DataFiles/Expanded

The universal Installer now fires up !

What's strange is I have only ever installed one version of Oracle (Oracle8i/Solaris) that hasn't been flaky on the installation. How can they have tested this ????

Anyhowz, thanks again for your help. Don't go away though, I can foresee there will be more questions to come.
