OCIDefineByPos hates length indicators for CLOBS?

Hi...
i've got some oci wrappers that try to configure all of the option indicators for each column selected (indicator, col code, and length), but whenever anything is configured for a return length on a clob column, the OCI calls trash memory something fierce...
anyone else run into this? any explaination why oci messes up when this is a non-null parameter?
