How should I configure LSI RAID on an SGI for Oracle use??

 Hello all

I have a general knowledge question here.  I am running Oracle 805 on an Origin 2000 SGI server.  We have bought a new fibre XIO card to which will be attached redundant raid controllers.
These RAID controllers will in turn be attached to 25 25 GB disks for a total of 626 GB of raw
 disk storage.
my question is: Should I "bind" all these 25 disks into only one LUN and then make several
partitions on this single LUN and mount these partitions as separate filesystems?
Or, should I make several LUNS and maybe only one or two partition per LUN and work from
 there.

I plan to still use my existing RAID device and controllers to contain redos, controlfiles and
etc. I am looking to have this big bit bucket to hold all my oracle datafiles to a certain extent.

As a note..Are databases aren't very transactional. One or two of them are static only. None
are run in Archive Log mode and most are accessed via either a webpage or some type of CGI
 script.

Thanks for the help!!.>Dan Received on Tue Oct 05 1999 - 00:00:00 CEST
