Hi everyone,

Here's a quick COM-Gen 2000 update. Beta build 225 was released at 7:15 PM on Aug. 11, 1999. It's available now

for free at our web site at http://www.q-d.com . Changes
since the last update are listed below. Our target date for
final release is still August 28, 1999.

For those unfamiliar with COM-Gen 2000, it's a VB6 Add-in that allows you, as a VB Developer, to cut up to 90% off your development time and create all of your data objects in a matter of seconds. COM-Gen 2000 reads from the most popular ODBC databases and generates the classes, properties, methods, and supporting SQL and VB code necessary to insert, update, delete, and retrieve records from any table therein. It also generates error handling code.

Changes since the last update include:

  • Extensive GUI overhaul, including the use of a "wizard" model rather than a modal window progression. Also removed directory and drive listboxes and replaced with folder browser, and fixed control colors to coincide with Windows appearance rather than just grey.
  • Fixed bug in generated 'Add' method on collection object that was causing errors by attempting to insert null values.
  • Fixed bug that was causing errors when attempting to add or update boolean (bit) fields in a SQL Server database.
  • Fixed bug that would cause SQL syntax errors when inserting or updating string fields containing apostrophes or single quote characters.
  • Fixed bug in 'Refresh' procedure that caused generated code not to compile due to a stray underscore character when using an MS-Access database.

Thanks again to you all for all your support, and don't forget to subscribe to both of our mailing lists. Details to be found at our web site mentioned above.
