Starting Oracle 8.0.4 remotely

Hello,

I need to stop and start an Oracle 8.0.4 database remotely using rsh etc. The problem that I have is
this: when starting the listener "lsnrctl start" it never returns normally thus hanging rsh. This is using the std oracle start and stop script that I have on the server ( which works locally but not remotely ). This is on a Sun E450 2x300MHz 2GB RAM Solaris 2.6
