I have supported Oracle production databases on both SUN and HP UNIX platforms. My current project is supporting Oracle 7.3.4 on NT 4.0 with Service Pack 4. We also have some SQL 6.5(?) databases on NT. Based on the past 8 months I would say that we can't even keep NT up and running for more than 16 hours straight, let alone 24 x 7, and as far as the older version of SQL is concerned, well, it's a good thing they can reload it often from the mainframe files! The company is now considering moving the Oracle databases to a UNIX platform and getting rid of SQL as soon as they possibly can due to all the outages they have experienced.

If your requirements are 24 x 7 you really have no choice but Oracle on UNIX. You'll never get 24 x 7 out of NT no matter what database you use.

Hope this helps.
