I am not aware of any larger companies who are running Oracle on Linux in a development environment yet. I suspect this is more a factor of the newness of it all rather than any actual problem with the configuration. Oracle8 for Linux has only been available for a few months, and Oracle8i for Linux was just announced. I think it's going to take a little while longer to catch on.

FWIW, I've been running Linux 2.0.35/RH5.1 on my personal development box (Pentium 150, 96Mb RAM, 10gb) with Oracle 8.0.5 (12Mb SGA) and Oracle Web Application Server 3.0 for about two months now. It's incredibly stable (not a single crash), and performance is quite good considering my modest hardware.
