Hi Keith,

Don't be panic ! It won't do you harm at all if you take my advice seriously. first, try to issue: ALTER TABLESPACE <your ts-name> OFFLINE IMMEDIATE; if fail, shut it down (the database), and then issue : STARTUP MOUNT
ALTER DATABASE DATAFILE '/oracle data file loction and filename' OFFLINE DROP; SHUTDOWN NORmAL;
STARTUP OPEN; see?
 easy indeed !!
