If the executables are on server A and SQLPLUS or processing is run to connect to Server B then TWO_TASK variable has to be set to establish sqlnet connection between the servers.

From 	To 	Instance	Database link name	   TWO_TASK entry
                                tnsnames entry on server
A	B       new1	         bnew	                    bnew.world
B       A       new1          	 anew	                    anew.world

The above explanation assumes your are at the server session. The two_task entry is always the sql net link name specified in the tnsnames.ora at /etc for (HP) .
