ORACLE8 migration

We are looking for someone with experience migrating a 7.2.3 database to ORACLE8. Oracle8 is to be installed on a new machine and we are having problems figuring out how to migrate. Am I wrong to assume that both d/bs have to be on the same machine to use the migration utility? Export/import is out because of the database size (18G).
