Mandatory Skills: Smalltalk, SQL, UNIX, Windows NT. Windows NT is the client environment.
UNIX is the server environment for the ORACLE Databases. Candidates should be familiar with both the UNIX and Windows NT environments. Experience with ObjectShare Object Lens (or similar product) which provides the mapping from the ORACLE RDBMS to the Objects is a big plus. 2 years Smalltalk development experience with experience in SQL.

Duties: Candidate will be a member of a 3 person development team, focusing on the creation and enhancement of the domain framework. (They create the object building blocks which map Application objects to the relational database world.) The team is using the ObjectShare Object Lens product as a base, and they have greatly extended this base for the application needs. The Candidate needs to be well versed with transactional issues with relational databases and how to best map this into objects in smalltalk. One of the activities the candidate will be engaged in will be continuing on with the development/enhancement of a GUI tool which helps the application developers map the objects for their application to the relational database world. The Candidate also needs to be experienced in the improvement of SQL query performance.

This Domain framework is being developed to support rapid and consistent application development in Smalltalk. The applications developed using the domain framework, are to support new product offerings by company's Data Networking. As the new products are introduced, the software team is responsible to add the business rules / objects to support the new product offering. The applications encompass: order entry, order activation, trouble ticketing, inventory (to include both equipment and circuit management), etc. for products such as DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) services, Frame Relay circuits, ATM circuits, Managed Data Services, etc. The team uses customized frameworks ( UI, Domain, and Database) as the building blocks for creating each application. The challenges of this position is 60% learning the frameworks (they are quite extensive) and 40% becoming familiar with the networking .The candidate will be involved mostly with new development efforts, but will also need to do bug fixes to existing code when problems arise.

Duration: One year initial, Will go on for at least two years Rate: upto $70 DOE
