There is an ODBC parameter called "Connection Timeout". Set it to zero, and the driver will never more disconnect automatically.

BTW, check your ODBC version. For A97 --> Ora733 you should use ODBC Vers. 2.5.3.1.5 (i.e. 2.5.3.1.0b from www.oracle.com and an additional patch from ftp://support.oracle.de/pub/www/odbc/32/25315 32.zip).
