i have had similar problems in the past, with Oracle and SQL Server running on the same box. i removed SQL Server and everything was back to normal. the machine was single processor with 64M RAM, so i figured that it was too low end to run two database servers (both the databases put together have about 6-7 services).

from what i have heard, it is not advisable to run two database programs on the same machine but i think the problems are machine specific.

it may be worthwhile to check the following things.

  1. is anything else running on the machine besides these?
  2. are the oracle tablespaces and datafiles well organized?
  3. when does the CPU max out i.e. is it specific to a query/procedure etc.
