i have had similar problems in the past, with Oracle and SQL Server running on the same box. i removed SQL Server and everything was back to normal. the machine was single processor with 64M RAM, so i figured that it was too low end to run two database servers (both the databases put together have about 6-7 services).
from what i have heard, it is not advisable to run two database programs on the same machine but i think the problems are machine specific.
it may be worthwhile to check the following things.
- is anything else running on the machine besides these?
- are the oracle tablespaces and datafiles well organized?
- when does the CPU max out i.e. is it specific to a query/procedure etc.
