USING LOBS WITH Oracle 8

I'm working on a project where we have to store a large quantity
of Word and Excel documents, each related with a database record
( document number, date, author, ...)
It seems that such documents can be stored in LOB columns, but
I can't figure how .
There is no real examples in the Oracle 8 documentation . It talks about buffers adresses and lengths, .. The question is :
How do I move a Word document from my PC to the Oracle database
( and back if possible ! )
