If you install the oracle context option ( text search through sql ) you can index files on your file system, and then write PL/SQL code to do you searches through a browser

The only problem with context is that it does not support all the word versions,but if you convert your documents to html you should not have a problem.

The benefit of converting to html is that the browsers accesing the system will not require a word plugin.
