If you're not in a 24x7 shop, nightly Oracle exports and weekly cold backups are probably sufficient. You must shutdown Oracle when you do your weekly ufsdump or you probably wont be able to restore.

BTW: comp.databases.oracle is dead,dead,dead. Ask your newsmaster to delete it.
