Go check out Quest Software's web site at www.quests.com. They've got some fantastic tools that we use. SQLab sounds like it might help you with what you are trying to do (SQL resource usage and tuning). Also, take a look at AdHawk Monitor on their site.

You can download these, and they will send you a code for a 30-day free trial. Talk to a fella named Gus Jackson.
