Digital Unix and SQL Net Version 2

I created a version 7.3.3 database on digital unix 4.0a. I have a valid listener and tnsnames. Using Sql Net v2. I can connect okay as long as I don't need sqlnet at this server. I can connect from a client or another server but when I try a sqlplus loopback - sqlplus system/manager_at_dbname

I receive an ORA-12641 error: TNS:Authentication failed to initialize.

I don't have any secure networking installed to my knowledge but I'm not really familiar with the digital unix install. So there may be something I'm overlooking. I can connect to all my other db's on this server okay - but this is the only 7.3.3. Anything in the install of 7.3.3 that may cause some type of authentication to occur by default? Any other ideas?
