Personally, and this is just my opinion, I think Microsoft probably isn't going to be buying anymore major software/computer companys anytime soon. Microsoft has reached such a huge size and has such a large overall market share in the computer industry that it can't aquire any other company without some sort of legal action being taken. Honestly, if Microsoft attempted to purchase Informix, both Oracle and Sybase would have them in either federal court or in front of some Senate sub-commitee arguing that Microsoft is gaining a monopoly over the database market. Then Janet Reno would end up slapping poor Bill on the wrist and saying "No, no, no. Now go out and play fairly with the other kids." I think Microsoft has resigned itself to hiring all of the major developers and managers of the competition rather than the company itself. Look at what it's done to Borland over the past couple of months. Instead of going through the inevitable legal hastles of purchasing Borland, Microsoft wooed and cooed all the major players in Borland's software development environment areas and put 'em to work in their software development environment departments. Borland had to slap an injunction on Microsoft to keep them from hiring all their great developers so that their company could continue to function. Received on Wed May 21 1997 - 00:00:00 CEST
