Some tests were performed to find answer on question "How much RAM do we need to generate Oracle Forms with Des2K forms generator?"

We used:
 Client: HP PC 75MHz, WinNT 3.51, Des2K R1.3.2.
Server: SUN Ultra Enterprise 2 (2 Ultra Sparc processors) 128 RAM,
Oracle v. 7.3.2.3 with parallel query option.

 MDD of generated module:

B >-L
|
^
B >- L >- L

B (Base table usage)
L (Lookup table usage)

The test results are:

RAM 16	24	32	40	48	56	64
Test 2(sec.)	248	169	168	129	79	42	28
Test 3(sec.)	249	176	169	111	65	40	27
Average 249	173	169	120	72	41	28

The time was calculated from generation start till generated form was running.
Test 1 was used to allow NT to cache what it can.

The results do not mean that it's better to by more RAM for your PC, because there are too many conditions, dependencies, exceptions, etc. Generally more RAM means faster generation result.

What may speed up the generation?

  1. Possibility to direct NT how much RAM to use for file caching.
  2. Possibility to direct forms generator to run uncompiled form (*.fmb file).
