Syncsort is a key element in my basket of tools for data extraction, preparation and cleanup. I have used it in MVS, VM, and Unix. (I've been using it for about 15 years).

For example I need to sort and aggregate some data in some very large Oracle tables. Job took lots of time using straight SQL. I wrote routines to dump it out in char form and then read that into Syncsort then loaded the result into the table. Net result it took 1/4 of the time as straight SQL. If you have large amounts of data, you should use this tool.
