Gene,

If you don't know client-server/networking then I'd definitely go for NT as the O/S. As far as which database to go with, that's far less clear-cut. Both Oracle and MS-SQLServer offer very good products with Oracle obviously having the larger market share (overrall that is - MS probably have a greater share of the NT market). If you're going to use VFP and VB as a front-end, then if you used MS SQLServer as a database then you'd have a single point of contact for any problems - and you will get some!
