support for "sets" datatype?

quick question: Does anyone know if there is a package or any other mechanism which could support a "set" datatype in oracle?
Or is there a way where I could make my own type, provide comparison and equality operators on it, and hope that oracle can blend it into its regular type system (start using my external functions whenever it sees an operation/query on them, without the user having to know it?).
Any pointers would also help..
Cheers,
