shmmax

HP-UX rel 9 & Oracle 7.2.3

Needed info;
We have a HP T500 with 1.2 gig of ram. Currently settings for shmmax is set to 268meg. Our oracle SGA is 251meg. If I understand these two settings correctly, we are currently using 21% of our memory for oracle and the rest of the memory is being used for unix processes or more then likely sitting idle.

I want to bump up my shmmax to 62% of 1.2 which would allocate 750 meg to my shmmax parm. I belive this means that whatever application are on the system, this is their allocated memory. Within oracle I'm going to increase my SGA to take appox. 75% of the 750meg.
