Locking ODBC

Wondering if someone could help. I am accessing an Oracle database using MS-Access with ODBC. 95% of the time it works fine. Occasionally, however, when accessing the database, Access just completely locks up. The same thing happens when I try to use MS-Query so I know it's not Access itself.
